I would stay a week alone at a hotel, while they were at school. I used to roam around the place, take day trips to Mahabaleshwar and generally walk around, alone with my thoughts or talk to the villagers. I loved the experience. I totally agree with you that while travelling with family and friends has its own merits, travelling solo has its own joys.
